Fall is slipping into our mornings and nights reminding us that seasons change. And with that change we say goodbye to a summer of blueberries and peaches and hello to a season of Concord grapes and apples. Imagine my delight when a trip to the farmer’s market this week confirmed that in fact fall is on its way with the first arrival of Concord grapes. These delicious divas are full of taste. Their sweet, tart flavor is addictive and their nutritional benefits are something to brag about too. Recent studies indicate that Concord grape juice may help slow the progression of age-related cognitive decline and more than a decade’s worth of science shows that Concord grape juice helps support flexible arteries to promote healthy blood flow. Feeling inspired by the Concord grape, I decided to take one of my favorite drinks, the French 75, and add a fall twist.

Fresh Concord Grape Juice

1 1/2 cups Concord grapes, no stems

1/4 tsp lemon juice

Concord Grape French 75

3 oz St. Georges Botanivore Gin

1.5 oz St. Germain Elderflower liqueur

1.5 oz fresh Concord grape juice

1/2 lime, juiced

Simple syrup to taste (recommended 1/2 oz)

Splash champagne or sparkling wine

Directions:

For the Concord Grape Juice: Puree the grapes and lemon juice in a vitamix (or other blender) on high for 30 seconds or more until the grapes are very pureed. Strain through a fine mesh sieve or cheesecloth, pressing, stirring, and squeezing to extract as much liquid as possible. Discard the solids and refrigerate juice if not using immediately.

For the Cocktail: Fill a cocktail shaker with ice and add the gin, St. Germain, fresh grape juice, lime juice, and simple syrup. Shake vigorously. Strain into a coupe glass or flute and top with 2 ounces champagne or sparkling wine.
